Rabat – In a round of 16 encounter at the 2024 Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan, Morocco clashed with Iran in a match that was anticipated to be fiercely competitive, culminating in a decisive victory for Morocco, with a final score of 4-3

The anticipation was palpable as fans from both nations gathered to support their teams in this crucial fixture.

The match began with both teams displaying their distinct styles of play. Morocco, recognized for its swift offense and robust defensive tactics, aimed to assert its dominance from the outset.

Iran, known for its disciplined formation and tactical intelligence, was intent on dictating the pace and dominating the game from the outset.

The adverse team wasted no time as it started strong by netting its first goal in the 4th minute of the match, scored by Mohammad Hossein Derakhshani.

Shortly after, Morocco responded quickly, leveling the score with their first goal in the 7th minute, courtesy of Khalid Bouzid, assisted by Otmane Boumezou.

Morocco’s second goal came from an own goal by Iran in the 11th minute of the match, putting the score at 2-1 in favor of Morocco.

The Atlas Lions’ Bouzid sustained an injury mid-game, adding to the roster of injured players for the Atlas Lions futsal team. He could not continue playing in the match.

Morocco’s third goal, netted by Soufiane El Mesrar in the 17th minute, put them ahead 3-1, and their fourth goal, scored by Idriss Raiss El Fenni in the 20th minute, capped off the first half on a high note.

The second half saw a shift in momentum. Iran began to find its rhythm, using quick counterattacks to exploit gaps in the Moroccan defense.

Just seconds into the second half, Iran seized the opportunity to score their second goal through Houssein Tayebi, followed shortly by a third goal from Moslem Oladghobad, narrowing the gap with Morocco.

Towards the end of the match, Hicham Dguig received a yellow card for his complaints and protests regarding the numerous fouls that occurred.

Ultimately, the match ended in a 4-3 score, leaving Morocco as the winner.

The Moroccan national team went undefeated in their first two matches against Tajikistan and Panama, but suffered a setback against tournament favorites Portugal in their final group stage game.

Morocco will compete against another strong contender in their next match, Brazil.
