Rabat – Morocco and Jordan are setting sights on a strong partnership, covering different sectors including agriculture, tourism, and renewable energy.
Moroccan ambassador to Jordan Fouad AKhrif spoke about Rabat’s bilateral ties with Amman in a new interview with Madar Assaa Al Ikhbariya on Sunday.
In the interview, the Moroccan diplomat stressed that horizons for bilateral cooperation between the two countries remain “very promising.”
Citing the historical bilateral ties between Jordan and Morocco, the Moroccan ambassador stressed that that relations have been strengthened to a “strategic partnership” under the reign of King Mohammed VI and King Abdullah II.
“Both countries are determined to strengthen this consultative approach inherent in their relations, appreciating Jordan’s significant contribution to Arab joint action,” he said, noting that both Morocco and Jordan have a legal framework consisting of over 120 conventions, as well as memorandums of understanding.
Both parties are also engaged in updating this framework to make it more suitable for the developments and the requirements of bilateral cooperation, the ambassador added .
Economic, commercial, and investment cooperation remains below the aspiration, Akhrif acknowledged, adding that this situation comes despite an attractive legal framework at both bilateral and multilateral levels for business people and private sector actors.
He urged the private sector in both countries to seize the investment opportunities offered by the two countries, and further called for the resumption of the direct air route between Casablanca and Amman.
The ambassador described the air route as essential for strengthening economic, commercial, touristic as well as human ties between Morocco and Jordan.
Efforts are underway to restore these flights, he concluded.
The Jordanian government has frequently emphasized interest in boosting cooperation with Morocco.
In March, officials from both countries met in Rabat, discussing ways to strengthen bilateral ties at all levels including parliamentary cooperation.
