Rabat – Moroccan international footballer Hakim Ziyech took to Instagram on Friday night to criticize the Moroccan government and other nations for supporting what he labels as genocide against the Palestinian people.
In an Instagram story, Ziyech shared a disturbing video that shows Israeli soldiers pushing the lifeless body of a Palestinian off rooftops after killing him and several others in the occupied West Bank town of Qabatiya.
Commenting on the shocking video, Ziyech said: “Let’s make one thing clear ..!! F*** Israel and every other country that supports this kind of behavior. Free Palestina.
Hours later, he posted another story saying that his last past “was also for the government of our own country [Moroccan flag] who supports genocide and all the other countries that’s supporting that.”
“Shame on you. Enough is enough,” he added.
In addition, he called upon Moroccans and individuals worldwide to raise their voices in solidarity with Palestine.
This video of Israeli soldiers mistreating the bodies of Palestinians in the West Bank sparked outrage worldwide.
The reaction to Ziyech’s outspoken remarks has been largely supportive, with many fans praising him for his courage and for using his platform to advocate for Palestinian rights.
However, some critics argued that as a prominent player, Ziyech should remain neutral and avoid political controversy.
Hours later, Ziyech deleted both of his Instagram stories.
Since the war on Gaza began, Moroccans have increasingly criticized the government for maintaining ties with Israel, demanding an immediate severance of these relations in light of the atrocities occurring in Gaza.
This sentiment has fueled widespread protests across several cities, with demonstrators taking to the streets to voice their outrage and call for solidarity with the Palestinian people.
