Rabat — Ryanair has announced the launch of a new flight between Girona in Spain and Morocco’s Beni Mellal.
Ryanair will offer its flights services between the two destinations three times a week.
The launch of the new service is also part of the airline’s strategy to connect Girona to other destinations, including Marrakech and Beni Mellal.
“We are committed to continuing the development of this airport. The goal is to reach three million airports,” the airline’s director for Spain, Portugal, France and Morocco Elena Cabrera said in a statement.
According to reports, Ryanair also announced the launch of direct flights linking Marrakech to Milan.
Morocco’s airports recorded traffic volumes of more than 12.35 passengers during the first five months of this year, marking a 19% increase compared to the same period last year.
International traffic grew by 19%, accommodating 11,135,210 passengers, while domestic traffic increased by 18% to 1,218,286 passengers.
Morocco’s airport authority attributed the rise in international traffic to the establishment of several global flight routes serving Moroccan airports.
The North African country aims to reach 15 million tourists this year, a rise from the 14.5 million arrivals last year.
Setting the goals high, by 2026, Morocco aspires to host 17 million tourists.
As of June, Morocco reached 7.4 million during the first six months of 2024.
The number represents a 14% increase compared to 2023.
“Moroccan tourism continues its upward trajectory, as evidenced by the exceptional growth in the first half of 2024,” the Ministry of Tourism said in a recent statement, adding that this year’s achievement also represents a spectacular 38% jump compared to 2019.
