The event is a commemoration of the birth of Prophet Mohammed. In the Islamic calendar, the event is always celebrated on the 12th day of the third month, Rabi’ al-Awwal.
It is a significant religious holiday in Islam, but Morocco also recognizes Eid Al-Mawlid as a national holiday.
During the holiday period, Moroccans traditionally gather with loved ones to eat together and read Quranic verses.
The mosques in the country are also popular gathering spots in the country, as devout Muslims gather to pay their respects to the Prophet.
The monarch is also expected to grant a new royal pardon, allowing many convicts to benefit from it.
This pardon is a customary protocol issued during religious and national holidays.
