Rabat – Morocco has moved up one spot to become the third most attractive country for trade in Africa, according to a recent report by Bloom Consulting. The country now trails only South Africa, which holds the top position, and Nigeria, which ranks second.

The 2024–2025 edition of the trade and economic report highlighted Morocco’s rise as a key commercial hub on the continent. For the first time, the country has secured a spot in the top three of Bloom Consulting’s Country Brand Ranking for Africa.

The report attributes this leap to several factors, including foreign direct investment (FDI) stability and Morocco’s increasing digital presence.

“Morocco sees a rise to the Top 3 regionally for the first time, underpinned by its stable FDI, D2 Digital Demand and online performance. The improvement in its rating score and social media presence, despite maintaining a CBS Rating (A) rating, reflects Morocco’s growing influence and strategic positioning in African trade,” the report said.

Morocco has surpassed several African economies, including Egypt, which moved up to fourth place, followed by Ghana in fifth. The latter saw a two spot decline in its ranking, which the report attributed to its inability to “compete with improvements seen in Morocco and Egypt.”

Wrapping up the top 10 are Ethiopia, Senegal (which moved up by a whopping 11 spots), Uganda, Kenya, and Tunisia, respectively. The report attributed Senegal’s impressive climb to its high FDI growth.

Meanwhile, the UK secured the top overall position globally for the second consecutive edition. It was followed by Germany, the US, Brazil, and China, respectively.

The Bloom Consulting Country Brand Ranking report evaluates and measures the effectiveness of countries’ branding strategy in attracting investment by analyzing key data across multiple dimensions.

It uses a proprietary algorithm that focuses on four variables: Economic Performance, D2 Digital Demand, Country Brand Strategy (CBS) Rating, and Online Performance. The factors provide a comprehensive overview of a country’s brand, its economic appeal, and its positioning in the global marketplace, the report said.

Bloom Consulting said its report aims to offer governments, particularly Ministries of Economy and National Trade Organizations (NTOs), insights to optimize their branding strategies and attract foreign investment.
