Marrakech – According to data from Chinese online travel service platform Ctrip, the number of Chinese tourists heading to Africa has surged by approximately 1.2 times from February to August this year compared to the same period last year.
This impressive growth highlights the continent’s rising popularity as a must-visit destination for travelers seeking new adventures and experiences.
With its stunning landscapes, rich culture, and endless adventure options, Africa is quickly becoming the go-to hotspot for Chinese travelers.
The numbers keep climbing as more and more Chinese tourists discover the continent’s unique allure.
Statistics from Fliggy, a leading Chinese online travel service platform, reveal that flight bookings to Africa have nearly doubled this year compared to last.
Egypt and Kenya are leading the charge, with bookings to these destinations soaring by 236 percent and 167 percent, respectively.
Li Peng, an executive at Tuniu.com, stated that over the past decade, Africa has increasingly captured the interest of Chinese tourists.
During peak travel seasons, such as the Chinese Lunar New Year, winter, and summer vacations, there has been a noticeable spike in demand for small-group and customized tours to the continent.
Li Mengran, media and public relations manager at Beijing-based travel agency U-tour, reports a 30 to 35 percent year-on-year rise in reservations for African tours.
The summer vacation and the September-October period, in particular, have seen significant increases, as these are prime times to experience Africa’s spectacular animal migrations.
According to Ctrip statistics, the top African destinations for Chinese tourists now include Egypt, South Africa, Morocco, Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Tunisia, Mauritius, and Ghana.
According to Li Peng, North Africa’s main attractions include its rich cultural and historical sites, as well as stunning desert landscapes.
In East Africa, travelers are drawn to its wild natural environment and remarkable natural wonders.
Meanwhile, Southern Africa is renowned for its high-quality leisure travel experiences.
Li Peng highlighted that tourists can explore ancient sites or unwind at beach resorts in Egypt, dive into Morocco’s rich and diverse cultural heritage, experience the vast Sahara Desert, and marvel at South Africa’s varied and stunning natural beauty.
Han Jie, president of China Youth Travel Service (CYTS) Aoyou Technology Development Co., Ltd., predicts that as China-Africa cooperation continues to grow, Africa will increasingly capture the interest of Chinese tourists.
Meanwhile, Qin Jing, vice president of Ctrip, notes that the tourism sectors of China and Africa are highly complementary, making Africa an especially appealing destination for Chinese travelers.
