Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has signed several contracts to revamp its IT equipment system.

The security directorate puts a budget of MAD 90 million ($9.2 million) for the project with contracts divided into five lots.

The investment includes the purchase of new equipment for its various departments, with the project covering all regions.

One of the contracts totaling MAD 25.2 million ($2.5 million) concerns the purchase of computers for central services in Rabat, with particular attention offered to the identity data registration centers.

The centers are dedicated to issuing identity cards and anthropometric records.

The purchase is part of the DGSN’s efforts to enhance and strengthen its services in combating organized crime and address security challenges.

In a press release last year, DGSN announced that 2023 marked advancing the digitalization of public safety services, significantly improving security performance.

The initiative covers the nationwide deployment of a unified police telecommunication network, an infrastructure comprising optical fibers that interconnect 57 cities across Morocco.

The network aims to secure telecommunication and expeditious data transfer to meet the operational requirements of security service management.

DGSN’s initiatives also include the creation of various applications and information technology solutions, empowering police officers to execute their missions with increased efficiency.

The efforts further cover the finalization of the deployment of the Police District Management Information System (GESTARR) and the integration of additional services, notably linking it to the new information system managing criminal cases for police districts.

The system is undergoing experimental use in 350 police stations within the police prefectures of Kenitra, Tangier, Meknes, Marrakech, Settat, and the provincial security of Safi.
