Rabat – At the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in Beijing, Morocco underscored its dedication to African development under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch announced on Friday.
Representing the kingdom at the summit, Akhannouch highlighted Morocco’s regional integration efforts and sustainable development projects that have drawn the attention of both Chinese and African officials.
Akhannouch emphasized Morocco’s pivotal role in fostering African development, pointing to initiatives that support greater regional cooperation, particularly in the Sahel.
He referenced the Kingdom’s commitment to projects that aim to open up access to the Atlantic Ocean for Sahelian countries, an initiative launched by King Mohammed VI.
“This project holds the potential to create a new and effective partnership between Morocco, China, and Africa,” said Akhannouch, reflecting on the alignment between the Kingdom’s strategies and the shared goals of China and African nations.
During the summit, Morocco expressed its eagerness to engage in key sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, education, and healthcare.
These fields, Akhannouch noted, are vital to Africa’s progress and are areas where Morocco has established itself as a leading advocate and collaborator.
The Prime Minister also praised China’s ambitious action plans for Africa, unveiled by President Xi Jinping, which include efforts to deepen cooperation and enhance development across the continent.
Morocco’s initiatives, spearheaded by King Mohammed VI, were well-received at the summit. Akhannouch highlighted the strong bonds forged between Rabat and Beijing, which were solidified during King Mohammed VI’s state visit to China in 2016.
Since then, both nations have sought to strengthen their partnership through bilateral agreements and the Belt and Road Initiative.
The Moroccan delegation at the summit featured several high-ranking officials, including Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and the Director-General of the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation, Mohamed Methqal.
