Rabat – Morocco’s 27-year old futsal star Soufian Charraoui has told FIFA that “we will beat Brazil for all Moroccans,” as the team gears up for the quarter-finals of the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup.
At the ongoing Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan, Morocco’s futsal team is gearing up for another formidable performance under the guidance of star player Soufian Charraoui. His team defeated Iran narrowly with a 3-4 victory, while favorites Brazil crushed Costa Rica with 5-0 scoreline.
Still, Charraoui says his team “will” win against Brazil, which has put in some memorable performances.
The Rotterdam-born Moroccan described the round-of-16 match against Iran as “beyond amazing,” as he highlighted that despite several injuries to the Moroccan squad, the team has performed well in this year’s Futsal World Cup. Injured players still contribute to the team and help inspire the playing squad, CHarraoui told FIFA.
Commenting on Moroccan fans, he described the team’s supporters as “crazy in a positive way,” emphasizing they inspire the team. “Moroccans are very, very proud people. We are fighting for our country, our fans, our coach, for all Moroccans.”
In the upcoming match Charraoui will face a team he has long admired, with a rampant starplayer, Willian, who has scored 9 goals and provided 5 assists during this year’s World Cup. Despite the quality the Moroccan team faces, Charraoui stated that “Morocco don’t fear Brazil or anyone. Nobody is afraid.”
Charraoui sees some of Brazil’s flair and style of play in Morocco’s approach, “we have the most beautiful style in the world, but Brazil have everything. They can play with a 4-0 or with a pivot. They are technically excellent, physically strong. Every one of their players is really good. They can change a game in an instant. It’s going to be a great game, a really positive game for futsal. I can’t wait!”
