Rabat – King Mohammed VI issued today instructions for Morocco to extend support to Spain following the severe floods that struck several regions in the European country.
A statement from the Ministry of Interior said that Minister Abdelouafi Laftit informed his Spanish counterparts of Morocco’s full readiness to dispatch rescue teams and provide any necessary assistance to Spain in response to the flooding.
The minister also expressed solidarity with the Spanish authority and condolences to the families of the victims.
Spain has been grappling with torrential rains and flash floods that struck eastern regions like Valencia, Castilla-La Mancha, Murcia, and Andalusia.
Preliminary data recorded 72 dead, with the toll expected to rise as rescue teams continue their efforts to reach affected areas.
Additionally, dozens of people are reported missing.
Spanish journalist from Valencia Soraya Aybar Laafou told Morocco World News today that rains have become “not only stronger but also caused a ravine to collapse in one of the ravines located in the interior of Valencia.”
The situation has triggered the Spanish government to officially declare three days of mourning.
In addition to Morocco, Portugal also expressed readiness to assist Spain.
“The Portuguese government expresses its strongest condolences over the high number of flood victims in Spain, shows solidarity with all the Spanish people and the government, and makes itself available for all necessary help,” Portugal’s Prime Minister Luis Montenegro said on X today.
