Rabat — Reports today said Algerian journalist Hichem Aboud, who was allegedly kidnapped , has been found in critical condition in Barcelona, Spain.
Medi1TV quoted sources saying Aboud was “the victim of a kidnapping attempt.”
“Aboud has been found in critical condition,” the news outlet further said.
Converging reports assert he was found alive following his mysterious disappearance since Thursday last week.
Additionally, Spanish security services reportedly said that four suspects were arrested for their alleged involvement in Aboud’s kidnapping and severe assault.
The journalist’s disappearance caused uproar and fear among his network of family members and friends, who suspected that the Algerian regime was directly involved in his kidnapping.
Aboud has been living in exile in France since 1997. He is among the journalists and activists targeted by Algerian authorities.
During the same day of his disappearance, Aboud shared a video saying he has been facing new assasination attempts from Algerian intelligence services.
On Saturday, the journalist’s lawyer Dalil Essakali Moulay Abdeljalil voiced serious concerns about Aboud’s safety.
“Aboud’s situation suggests a kidnapping rather than just a disappearance,” the lawyer said, attributing the incident to the same individuals responsible for previous attempts.
“He is a target of the Algerian military junta,” he further stated.
Oualid Kebir, an Algerian journalist and analyst, echoed the same concerns, noting that he stopped all communication on the same day he posted a video in which he condemned the assasination attempts against him.
