French football star Kylian Mbappe has denied the rape accusations pressed against him, describing them as “fake news,” reports by Swedish sources have indicated.
“Fake news!!!!. it’s becoming so predictable, on the eve of the hearing, as if by chance,” Mbappe wrote on X on Monday.
Swedish media outlets, including Aftonbladet, have claimed that police are investigating the football player who is “reasonably suspected of rape and sexual assault.”
The reports suggest Mbappe visited Stockholm last week, where he allegedly had dinner with a group of people before visiting a nightclub.
The player was involved in a rape case while in Stockholm, the reports further claimed, citing a complainant who allegedly filed a police report on Saturday last week.
News outlet Flashscore quoted AFP today as saying Mbappe’s entourage had no “knowledge of a legal complaint made against him.”
Another Swedish news outlet, Expressen, said today police “seized some clothing as evidence,” including women’s underwear as well as a pair of trousers and a top.
Sweden’s Prosecution Authority, quoted by Flashscore, reportedly confirmed that a “criminal report has been submitted to the police.”
According to the report, Flashscore added, “the alleged incident occurred at a hotel on October 10th, but did not name a suspect and said no further information could be shared for the moment.”
