Princess Lalla Hasnaa Leads New Push to Protect Rabat’s Cultural Heritage

Rabat – Princess Lalla Hasnaa, President of the Foundation for the Safeguarding of Rabat’s Cultural Heritage, led a pivotal Board of Directors meeting on Monday, spotlighting the Foundation’s progress over the past two years.

In her remarks, Princess Lalla Hasnaa highlighted the Foundation’s efforts in educating young people about cultural heritage through partnerships with Morocco’s culture and education sectors.

She emphasized the development of innovative educational tools designed to make cultural heritage concepts accessible to students in primary and secondary schools. The “Discover My Heritage” program, implemented in Taroudant, serves as a model of this approach.

The princess also reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to international cooperation, notably through its partnership with UNESCO. This collaboration aims to enhance access to culture, art, and education, fostering a deeper appreciation of cultural heritage across communities.

Promoting research and public awareness on cultural preservation is central to the Foundation’s mission, Princess Lalla Hasnaa noted.

Through workshops, exhibitions, and digital projects, the Foundation brings together experts, institutions, and the public to engage in preserving Rabat’s rich heritage.

Among its 2022-2023 initiatives, the Foundation continued its educational programs “I Draw My Heritage” and “I Discover My Heritage,” with participants exploring themes like “Heritage and Climate.”

Students also had the opportunity to tour Rabat’s World Heritage sites, guided by professionals, to deepen their understanding of their city’s legacy.

Additionally, the Foundation’s “Heritage Digitization” project took a significant step forward by creating a virtual tour of the historic Kasbah of the Udayas.

Public engagement was further strengthened through exhibitions like “Rabat Carpets… A Whole Art” and a traveling showcase on Rabat as a World Heritage city.

The Board of Directors also approved the financial statements for 2022-2023, affirming the Foundation’s transparent management of its projects.

Established by King Mohammed VI, the Foundation remains dedicated to ensuring Rabat’s cultural legacy is preserved for future generations.
