Rabat — King Mohammed VI has congratulated Mohamed Ould Errachid for taking office as the new president of the House of Councillors during the second half of the ongoing legislative term.
Addressing his accomplishment, the monarch said “we are pleased to extend our heartfelt congratulations on the trust you have received to undertake this parliamentary responsibility, wishing you every success in your esteemed duties.”
The monarch also expressed hope to see him achieve “further gains in enhancing the performance of this legislative body, solidifying its role and position in the national constitutional institutional framework, and strengthening its active involvement in serving the public good and defending the just causes of the Moroccan nation.”
Morocco’s government coalition announced last week that it has decided to nominate Errachid from the Istiqlal Party to serve as the houspeaker of the House of Councillors.
The decision is in line with Article 63 of Morocco’s constitution stipulating that the president of the House of Councillors, bureau members, and chairs and offices of the standing committees shall be elected at the start of the legislative term.
Born in Laayoune in 1971, Ould Errachid has held several positions, including president of the Laayoune Sakia El Hamra region.
He also served as a member of the Chamber of Agriculture for the Laayoune Sakia El Hamra region.
