Doha – An attack involving shooting and stabbing left at least six people dead and nine others wounded in Tel Aviv on Tuesday evening, according to Israeli police.
The attack began on the Tel Aviv light rail and continued as the assailants, described as two “terrorists,” fled on foot.
Authorities reported that the attackers were eventually neutralized by armed civilians and inspectors using personal weapons.
Police believe the suspects originated from the West Bank city of Hebron, though no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Medics and paramedics from Israel’s MDA ambulance service responded to the scene at 7:01 p.m. local time, providing on-site treatment to the wounded, who suffered injuries of varying degrees.
Some of the victims were found unconscious, while others were in critical condition.
The attack caused widespread panic in the area of southern Tel Aviv, with witnesses reporting chaotic scenes as people fled the gunfire.
Security forces quickly cordoned off the area and launched a manhunt for any potential additional suspects.
At the same, the recent Israeli military actions in Lebanon and Gaza, Iran launched a barrage of nearly 400 ballistic missiles at Israel minutes after the shooting.
The Israeli military said it intercepted a large number of the projectiles with the assistance of US forces, but some missiles struck central and southern Israel, causing damage and injuries.
The incidents have heightened tensions in the region, with fears of a potential larger-scale conflict between Israel and Iran and its allies.
