Rabat – Strong rainfall will hit several provinces across Morocco from Monday to Wednesday, and the weather office is also expecting snowfall and cold weather.

The General Directorate of Meteorology said in an orange level alert that rainfall between 35 and 50 millimeters will affect the provinces of Taourirt, Figuig, Guercif, Boulemane, Errachidia, Tinghir, and Midelt from Monday 12 a.m. to Tuesday at 6 a.m. local time.

Rainfall between 25 and 30 millimeters will also concern the Ouarzazate, Al Haouz, Sefrou, Taza, Beni Mellal, Azilal, M’diq-Fnideq, and Fahs-Anjra from Monday 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. local time.

Snowfall will also come down in the provinces of Boulemane, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Al Haouz, Tinghir, and Midelt from midnight on Monday to Tuesday morning.

Cold weather is forecasted with temperatures reaching -3 and 3 Celsius degrees from Monday to Wednesday in the provinces of Azilal, Beni Mellal, Al Haouz, Midelt, Tinghir, Ouarzazate, Boulemane and Ifrane.

This past weekend several provinces and cities had rainy weather, including Rabat.

The rain is good news for Morocco’s agriculture sector, which has witnessed years of drought and water scarcity.

Morocco Agriculture Minister Ahmed El Bouari kicked off the new agricultural season this weekend, with a plan aimed at supporting farmers through water scarcity, rising costs and other challenges.

The Agriculture Ministry aims to cover 5 million hectares with approximately 1.26 million quintals of certified seeds. These will primarily be autumn cereals, priced 3-5% lower than last year to encourage adoption.
