Casablanca – Jordan Henderson fractured his wrist on Monday, just minutes after England qualified for the 2026 World Cup quarter-finals against Mexico (3-2). The midfielder fell while attempting to climb over the advertising boards at Mexico’s Azteca Stadium during the post-match celebrations.
According to The Athletic, Jordan Henderson will miss the World Cup as he needs to undergo surgery to repair this injury. It’s a major blow for the 36-year-old, who was an unused substitute against Mexico and had only made one appearance, a seven-minute stint against Panama, so far.
The injury happened moments after the final whistle. Henderson lost his balance while climbing over the barrier separating the pitch from the stands. The former Liverpool captain immediately received treatment from the medical staff before being stretchered off with oxygen.
The match had initially gone in favor of the Three Lions. Reduced to ten men for over forty minutes after Jarell Quansah’s sending off, England secured their place in the next round thanks to a brace from Jude Bellingham and a goal from Harry Kane.
