Rabat – Morocco’s Under-17 team cruised past Egypt with a 5-1 win on Monday night at Al Bachir Stadium in Mohammedia in the opening game in the North African tournament, which acts as a qualifier for the Africa Cup of Nations.
The thrashing started in the 33rd minute when Ismail El Oud put Morocco ahead. The Atlas Cubs kept Egypt’s defense on edge, mixing up short passes with long balls that caused Egypt big problems. Abdullah Wazzan’s clever play helped Morocco control the game as Egypt struggled to keep up.
After half-time, Morocco didn’t let up. Ahmed Mouhoub made it 2-0 in the 68th minute. A minute later, Wazzan struck again, bringing the score to 3-0. Egypt seemed caught off guard and couldn’t match Morocco’s pace.
Moroccan coach Nabil Baha brought on his son, Ziad, and it paid off quickly. In the 77th minute, Ziad Baha scored, making it 4-0. Egypt was awarded a penalty just before the final whistle, allowing Attia to score a consolation goal. But Morocco wasn’t done yet – Elias Ben Mokhtar netted a fifth in the last breath of the game making it 5-1.
Morocco dominated the game, leaving the Egyptian youth team unable to build up play comfortably.
Meanwhile, Algeria lost to Tunisia 0-1 in another opening day clash. Anisse Saidi scored the only goal of the game in the last minutes of the first half.
Next up, Algeria faces Egypt on Thursday, November 14, while Morocco will meet Tunisia on Sunday, November 17 in a thrilling North African derby.Read Also: FIFA Announces Dates for U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco
