Rabat – Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has taken a significant step in its expansion plans, acquiring two new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. This latest addition brings the airline’s total fleet of 787-9s to seven.

One of the new aircrafts will help RAM launch its first direct route from Casablanca to Los Angeles, marking an important milestone in the airline’s North American expansion.

The second Dreamliner is set to operate on the Casablanca-Beijing route, enhancing Morocco’s ties with China and offering a direct link between the two countries as they strengthen their economic and cultural exchange.

These acquisitions follow a strategic call for tenders RAM initiated in April, part of an ambitious vision to quadruple its fleet to 200 aircraft by 2030.

Abdelhamid Addou, CEO of Royal Air Maroc, emphasized the expansion as crucial to meeting Morocco’s tourism and economic targets, especially as the nation prepares to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal.

“This plan is set to meet growing travel demand and elevate Morocco’s tourism offerings,” Addou said.

With a current fleet of 52 aircraft and serving around 50 African airports, RAM aims to help Morocco reach its tourism goal of 17.5 million visitors by 2026 and an impressive 26 million by 2030.

A member of the Oneworld alliance since 2020, RAM currently operates out of Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport, serving 134 routes across 45 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

Owned entirely by the Moroccan government, RAM is Africa’s largest Moroccan airline and is poised to play a pivotal role in Morocco’s tourism and economic landscape for years to come.
