Rabat– Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, led Morocco’s delegation at the 92nd INTERPOL General Assembly in Glasgow, Scotland, held from November 4 to 7.
This prominent annual gathering convened representatives from 177 countries, including heads of security agencies and leaders from 196 INTERPOL member states, for discussions on comprehensive security and international police cooperation.
As the assembly concluded, Hammouchi received the INTERPOL flag, officially marking the handover to Morocco, which will host the 93rd General Assembly in Marrakech in 2025. This symbolic transfer signifies the start of preparations for the next assembly, set to bring together law enforcement agencies from around the world.
In his address to delegates, Hammouchi expressed appreciation to member states for unanimously selecting Morocco, and particularly Marrakech, as the next host. He underscored Morocco’s pride in serving as a secure and collaborative venue for addressing global security challenges.
Hammouchi assured that Moroccan security services would ensure all necessary arrangements for a successful assembly, facilitating productive discussions that would bolster international security cooperation.
Morocco’s participation in this General Assembly aligns with a broader strategy to reinforce its role in international security collaboration, with a focus on combating terrorist threats and transnational organized crime.
This engagement aims to position Morocco as a trusted and key security partner in global forums on policing and criminal justice, reflecting the vision of King Mohammed VI on the importance of international cooperation, especially within Africa.
During the assembly, the Moroccan delegation showcased the country’s advancements in applying artificial intelligence to future police operations. They actively participated in discussions shaping INTERPOL’s global counterterrorism strategy and enhancing field support for law enforcement.
The Moroccan delegation engaged in multilateral talks to strengthen global police cooperation, with a focus on creating international partnerships to tackle cross-border criminal threats. These discussions aimed to enhance Morocco’s integration within INTERPOL’s global communications network, reinforcing connections between law enforcement agencies worldwide.
During this 92nd Assembly, Morocco was elected by a significant majority to the position of Vice-President of INTERPOL for Africa. This vote highlights Morocco’s active role in promoting security and stability both regionally and internationally, as well as its leadership in advancing South-South security cooperation.
A statement from Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) confirmed that the Moroccan representative secured the position with overwhelming support from 96 member states, underscoring broad confidence in Morocco’s contributions to global security efforts.
The event concluded with a video presentation that highlighted Morocco’s security model and the rich cultural heritage of Marrakech, underlining the country’s readiness to host the next General Assembly in 2025.
