Rabat – A gang has been sentenced to a total of 26 years in prison by the Rabat Criminal Court. The six convicted gang members have caused terror in Temara, Skhirat, Tamesna, and Ain Atik. Their tactics included tieing up victims and threatening or harming them at knifepoint.
Police arrested the convicts when they received a tip-off from a cargo driver. He reported seeing the gang attack a night guard in the outskirts of Skhirat. The guard was strapped and bleeding, lying inside a horse stable. The driver said another guard had been kidnapped and robbed at knifepoint, all while a Peugeot car waited nearby.
In a similar incident, a food delivery guy was attacked in Ain Atik. The gang stole his motorbike, smartphone, and even his asthma inhaler.
Three of the gang members received six-year prison terms. A fourth, who is reportedly still on the run, was sentenced to four years in absentia. Two others were handed two-year sentences each. A seventh member, a woman who is currently being held pre-trial, will stand in court later this month.
Defense lawyers tried to have charges dismissed, but the evidence—including confessions and witness statements—proved too strong. The gang tried but failed to settle the case with the three victims outside the courtroom.
Local authorities say the investigation is ongoing as they work to track down the remaining suspect at large.
