Rabat – The Casablanca customs subdivision has seized yesterday a large quantity of hookah tobacco as well as the raw ingredients used to produce the drug.
According to a customs source, the operation was conducted in coordination with the regional investigation and risk analysis service of the Casablanca-Settat Regional Customs Directorate, and under the supervision of the relevant public prosecutor’s office.
The seizure included 1,200 kg of tobacco, along with various products and equipment used in its production.
The operation took place during a raid on a villa in the Sidi Rahal Plage area, located within the Berrechid province with the help of Sidi Rahal Royal Gendarmerie and local authorities.
The villa’s caretaker was taken into custody by the Royal Gendarmerie for further investigation.
This successful operation is just one of various successful interventions that Moroccan authorities have completed recently to combat illegal trafficking.
Yesterday, authorities in Oujda detained five suspects, including four members of the same family, in connection with an international gold trafficking network. The suspects, aged 26 to 68, were arrested during a targeted operation in the city.
Searches at three properties uncovered 87 small gold bars weighing a total of 33.13 kilograms, as well as significant amounts of cash in local and European currencies, believed to be proceeds from the trafficking activities.
These arrests are part of Morocco’s intensified efforts to combat illegal trafficking. Their success reflects the country’s commitment to boosting border security and dismantling criminal networks across various sectors.
