Rabat – Moroccan entrepreneur and environmentalist Saad Abid has won the “Social Impact Award’ at the Global Entrepreneurship Festival (GEF) 2024, which took place in Nigeria between November 22 and 24.
The award recognizes Abid’s work in “environmental advocacy, youth empowerment, and social innovation,” according to a press release.
GEF convened more than 5,000 participants and officials with the aim of empowering and uplifting entrepreneurs across the world.
The event featured panel discussions, workshops, and masterclasses from global experts who shared their insights about latest entrepreneurship strategies and practices.
The statement said that the award highlighted Abid’s “relentless dedication to creating tangible impact across communities worldwide.”
After receiving the award, Abid said that “This honor is not just mine; it belongs to everyone who believes in the power of giving back and creating meaningful change.”
He added, “This 2nd International recognition in 2024 fuels my determination to continue breaking barriers, inspiring action, and working towards a sustainable future in Morocco and Africa.”
This recognition follows another award he received earlier this year in the Hague, Netherlands at the Oceanlove Innovation Award for his invention in ocean conservation, “The Chbika.” The tool is designed to collect and manage micro-waste, which poses a significant threat to marine life and ecosystems.
Through his organization Bahri Association, Abid aims to impact the lives of thousands by leading coastal cleanups, innovative waste-collection programs, and youth education projects.
Abid’s background as a surfer and tennis player inspired his environmental and social initiatives, as he witnessed firsthand the extent of pollution in local beaches and how it impacted
communities. This has motivated him to develop tools like “The Chbika” to help his community.
