Rabat — The investigating judge at the Casablanca Court of Appeal has ordered the provisional detention of three suspects—Kamil Bennis, M’hammed Alj, and Saad Slaoui—following accusations of rape and assault made by a young French lawyer.
The alleged incident occurred during a party at Bennis’ residence, which was attended by around 100 guests, including high-profile individuals.
The victim allegedly provided medical evidence of sexual assault, although Bennis said the encounter was consensual.
The case has attracted significant attention due to the social standing of those involved. The suspects have been in police custody for 72 hours.
Morocco news outlet Le360 reported that the three suspects face serious charges, including rape, kidnapping, violence, assault, and drug use.
A fourth individual was also recently added to the list of suspects, the news outlet said, noting that he is actively being sought out by the police.
The alleged victim filed two complaints. The lawyer gave her statement to police on Thursday, submitting a medical expert report from Paris. The report had evidence of sexual intercourse and genital mucosal injuries.
The alleged rape incident dates back to Saturday, November 2.
Many citizens have interacted with the case, expressing their voice of support for the legal proceedings and calling for justice for the French lawyer despite the suspects’ social status.
