Rabat – The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has expressed his pride in Morocco’s significant contributions to the development of football across Africa.

Speaking in Sale last night following the draw for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), set to take place in Morocco in July 2025, Motsepe highlighted Morocco’s exemplary efforts and infrastructure.

“I want to start by thanking His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, and the Moroccan people. I am very proud of Morocco’s role in the growth of football in Africa,” Motsepe said during his press conference.

The CAF chief noted the high quality of Morocco’s sports infrastructure that are also “available for Africa,” urging other African countries to adopt Morocco’s approach.

He lauded the partnership between the Moroccan government, the FRMF, and other stakeholders, calling it a model for collaboration and success on the continent.

Reflecting on the upcoming WAFCON, Motsepe expressed confidence in an exciting and high-level competition. He pointed to the strong performances of African teams during the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand as proof of the growth in women’s football.

“The level and quality of women’s football have improved greatly,” he noted. “We will witness the best of African women’s football, and the world will see the incredible talent of African players.”

Also speaking at the same event, FRMF President Fouzi Lekjaa reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to hosting a successful tournament. He credited the vision of King Mohammed VI for Morocco’s leadership in African football.

“Morocco will once again welcome African players with open arms. The players and fans will feel at home in their second country,” Lekjaa said.

The WAFCON draw placed hosts Morocco in Group A alongside DR Congo, Senegal, and Zambia. Group B features Nigeria, Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana, while Group C includes South Africa, Ghana, Mali, and Tanzania.
