Rabat – Morocco renewed today its commitment and support for the ongoing political process to resolve the lingering crisis in Libya.
Moroccan ambassador to the African Union (AU) Mohamed Arrouchi conveyed Morocco’s support during a meeting of the AU Peace and African Security Council, stating that his country supports a political solution and dialogue between Libyan actors to end the stalemate.
Morocco reiterated that internal Libyan dialogue is the only means to resolve the crisis that the country has been facing for years. Arrouchi noted that the prevalent issues in Libya’s political landscape can only be resolved through presidential and legislative actions.
He further said this process could enable the country to establish credible institutions, recalling Morocco’s role in ending political conflict and improving the humanitarian and economic situation in Libya.
Arrouchi also reiterated Morocco’s support for Libyan state institutions to ensure security as well as fight terrorism and organized crime.
Morocco has been hosting several meetings, convening Libyan officials from all factions, with the aim of opening dialogue sought to help the parties to the conflict find an agreed upon political solution to the lingering crisis.
The meetings brought together officials from the Eastern Libya based parliament and the Tripoli based High State Council to discuss a potential consensus on how to end the conflict.
The Moroccan ambassador said Morocco collaborates with all Libyan institutions with respect and credibility, conveying the country’s determination to continue its efforts to bring the viewpoints of the Libyan parties closer by hosting its officials.
The Moroccan diplomat also renewed Morocco’s support for the UN-led political process aimed to preserve Libyan sovereignty and restore security and stability in the country.
“Morocco is aware that the multiplication of foreign interferences in the Libyan file and divergent international agendas have a negative impact on resolving the Libyan crisis, deepen international divisions, and compromise any peaceful political process,” Arrouchi said, as quoted by MAP.
Libyan officials have frequently expressed satisfaction with Morocco’s efforts and its support for the UN-led political process.
