Rabat – The National Meteorological Directorate (DGM) has issued an “orange” alert for strong wind gusts and potential dust storms expected to impact several provinces in Morocco this Thursday.
Winds reaching speeds of 75 to 90 kilometers per hour are expected between 7 am and 5 pm, particularly in the provinces of Figuig, Jerada, Oujda-Angad, Taourirt, Boulemane, and Midelt.
Houcine Youaabed, head of communications at DGM, explained that extreme weather conditions Morocco is set to experience in the next couple of days are part of a broader atmospheric disturbance resulting from a low-pressure system forming over the Iberian Peninsula.
This system is expected to bring cold air masses into Morocco’s upper atmosphere, causing widespread cloud cover and scattered rain showers across the northern regions of the country, with some coastal areas likely experiencing moderate rainfall.
The changing weather, Youaabed told SNRT News, will impact northern Morocco starting Wednesday evening, with regions like Tangier, Loukkos, and western Rif anticipated to see moderate rainfall.

Rain is also expected in the east, southeastern areas, and the Middle Atlas, with occasional light showers in the central plains west of the Atlas Mountains and along the Mediterranean coast.
Temperatures are expected to drop slightly, with cold conditions prevailing in mountainous areas and moderate winds affecting the High Atlas, eastern regions, and southeastern Morocco.
Looking ahead to Thursday, the Atlantic plains between El Jadida and Essaouira are expected to experience significant rainfall, with thunderstorms possible in some areas.
Meanwhile, temporary cloudy conditions with scattered light showers are likely to occur in the Gharb, western Rif, Tangier, and other northern Atlantic plains. Cold weather will continue over the Atlas Mountains, although temperatures will stabilize across much of the country.
As for Friday, unsettled weather is expected to persist, bringing further thunderstorms to the Atlas Mountains, southeastern regions, and the eastern provinces. Some northern Atlantic coastal areas may also see light showers, according to Youaabed.
