Meknes – Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) President Rafael Louzán has voiced his frustration over rumors that Morocco is now the favorite candidate to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup final.
Speaking on the Spanish radio station Cadena COPE, Louzán warned that ongoing speculation and public debates regarding the venue only serve to weaken the joint bid, which is being co-hosted alongside Portugal.
“I sometimes feel angry when I see doubts being raised about Spain leading this centenary World Cup. There shouldn’t be any questions about this,” Louzán said.
The Spanish football chief stressed that talking about the venue for the final this early does not help the three host nations, noting that many details of the joint bid are still being worked out.
“It is not good for the joint bid to be weakened by discussions of this kind,” he added.
These comments showcase the escalating debate over where the historic final will be played. While Spain is pushing hard to host the match at Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu, Morocco is presenting a strong rival bid centered on the spectacular Hassan II Grand Stadium, set to be built in Casablanca.
The Spanish official also questioned the timing of the rumors. He hinted that the leaks were deliberately planned to cause a distraction, pointing out that both national teams were in action when the news broke.
“It is strange that this information came out on the very day that Morocco was playing their match, and we were too,” he explained.
The final decision on these organizational details now rests with FIFA. Football’s world governing body is expected to make the ultimate call on several key aspects of the historic centenary tournament, most notably choosing the host venue for the highly anticipated 2030 World Cup final.
