Rabat – Spain has extended its heartfelt thanks to Morocco for its timely and effective assistance in addressing the devastating floods that recently swept through the Valencia region.

The recognition, conveyed by Spain’s Director General of Civil Protection, Virginia Barcones, reflects the deep ties between the two neighboring countries.

In a statement on Friday, Barcones praised King Mohammed VI for swiftly mobilizing resources to aid Spain’s crisis response.

“The Spanish government and people deeply appreciate the invaluable support provided by King Mohammed VI and the Kingdom of Morocco during this challenging time,” she said.

The floods, triggered by the severe storm Dana, caused significant damage and disruption across parts of Spain, leaving local emergency services stretched thin.

Morocco’s assistance, Barcones noted, was both immediate and effective, highlighting the professionalism of Moroccan teams deployed to the affected areas.

An exceptional Moroccan convoy of 24 vacuum-pump trucks and 70 operators arrived in Valencia on Wednesday to bolster ongoing relief operations.

Barcones commended the speed and efficiency of Morocco’s intervention, calling it “a gesture of exemplary solidarity and partnership.”

The collaboration was set into motion following directives from King Mohammed VI, who instructed Morocco’s Minister of the Interior to coordinate with his Spanish counterpart.

The directive emphasized Morocco’s full readiness to dispatch rescue teams and provide necessary support in mitigating the disaster’s impact.
