Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Islamic Affairs announced today that the second phase for collecting Hajj expenses for the next season will take place from December 9-13.
The phase concerns those registered on the waiting lists, the ministry said, noting that this will allow citizens selected through the lottery to pay their Hajj costs.
Payments are accepted at various Al Barid Bank branches across the country, the ministry said, adding that certified checks will also be accepted.
The expenses have to be paid in one installement at Al Barid bank pranches.
For this year, the Royal Hajj Committee has decided that people selected for Hajj under the official list would pay an approximate amount of MAD 65,000.
The final cost of Hajj, however, will be determined later by the committee, which is also yet to confirm whether the final Hajj fees will increase or decrease.
Meanwhile, the ministry announced today the Hajj committee’s announcement in July that selected citizens drawn in the Hajj lottery should pay the same amount
Moroccans who performed the Hajj season in June this year paid MAD 66,865 or $6,729.
In November 2023, the ministry announced a MAD 3,000 ($3,200) increase in Hajj costs.
Last season’s Hajj saw the death of many pilgrims due to extreme heat.
Reports indicated that over 1,300 Muslim pilgrims died earlier this year in June.
The number of Moroccan pilgrims who died during the previous season reached at least 17 individuals.
Saudi authorities reported that the total number of pilgrims this year has so far reached over 1.8 million, with 1.6 million coming from abroad.
