Rabat — Ilyas El Maliki, a popular Moroccan streamer and YouTuber, was released from El Jadida prison on Monday after his prison sentence was reduced to two months.
They had originally sentenced him to four months for public indecency, but the new ruling means he can now walk free.
El Maliki’s case began when Amazigh associations accused him of inciting hatred and discrimination. Those groups later withdrew their complaints, and El Maliki was acquitted of the more serious charges.
The court, however, found him guilty of public indecency.

The 2023 YouTube Gaming star admitted to making mistakes. In court, he publicly apologized to the Amazigh community, explaining his comments were not meant to offend or hurt anyone.
In another court ruling, El Maliki was handed out a three-month prison term and a fine of MAD 2,000 ($200) after 38 feminist and human rights organisations accused him of using his platform to spread hate, defame women, and promote discrimination based on gender.
During the trial, El Maliki admitted wrongdoings and apologised.
El Maliki is now free, but his legal battles and online behaviour continue to be a subject of public debate.
Last October, Gerard Piqué, former FC Barcelona defender and founder of the Kings League, announced that Ilyas El Maliki will preside over the Moroccan team in the upcoming King’s League competition in Italy.
Farouk Life, a youtuber, shared the news in a story on his Instagram account: “My brother Ilyas regains his freedom, and is back to personally lead Morocco in the King’s League.”
El Maliki boasts over 2.5 million followers and is the biggest streamer in Morocco and the third-largest in the Arab world.
