Rabat – Morocco asserted its leadership in cybersecurity at the inaugural session of the Arab Cybersecurity Ministers Council, held Monday in Riyadh, presenting a forward-looking vision for enhancing regional cooperation to address evolving cyber threats.

Represented by the Directorate General for the Security of Information Systems (DGSSI), which operates under the National Defense Administration, Morocco reiterated its commitment to fostering collective resilience in the face of digital challenges.

At the summit, Morocco outlined cybersecurity as a key pillar for the stability and development of nations, pointing to the pressing need for collective action to navigate the complexities of today’s digital landscape.

The inaugural meeting marked an important moment for Morocco to reinforce its regional leadership in bolstering cybersecurity capabilities.

The country also expressed full support for the creation of the Arab Cybersecurity Ministers Council, viewing it as a crucial opportunity to create a unified Arab approach to securing the digital realm.

Morocco demonstrated its substantial progress in cybersecurity by implementing comprehensive reforms across strategic, legal, and technical areas to protect national information systems and support a secure digital economy.

During the council discussions, Morocco played an active role in advocating for initiatives such as a unified Arab cybersecurity strategy, joint cyberattack simulations, and regional platforms for information sharing.

The country also called for boosting the Arab cybersecurity industry and unifying positions on cybersecurity in international forums. Through its involvement, Morocco affirmed its commitment to regional cooperation as a means of building greater digital resilience.

The Arab Cybersecurity Ministers Council, established by Saudi Arabia under the League of Arab States, seeks to improve collaboration among member states and address the region’s pressing cybersecurity challenges. Morocco’s participation reflects its goal to shape a secure and unified digital future for the Arab world.

Morocco has cemented its status as a regional and global cybersecurity leader, ranking among the top five Arab nations in the 2024 Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI).

The country’s cybersecurity score has surged from 82.4% in 2020 to 97.5% this year, according to the latest report from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

This impressive progress places Morocco alongside other advanced nations in the region like Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, and the UAE, positioning it among an elite group of “role-model” countries in cybersecurity, including the United States and the UAE, and surpassing countries such as Switzerland and China.
