Rabat – The German Development Bank (KfW) and Morocco signed in Rabat today a €100 million agreement as part of efforts to finance the North African country’s Climate Policy Support Program.
Morocco’s Delegate Minister for Budget Fouzi Lekjaa signed the agreement with Jan Schilling, the regional manager for the water sector in NorthA Africa at KfW.
Lekjaa commended the depth of Moroccan-German cooperation through KfW, hailing the German group’s support in addressing Morocco’s climate change challenges and supporting the country’s efforts to meet its ecological goals.
The program seeks to support Morocco’s measures to address climate change and its efforts to transit to a low carbon economy.
Morocco has been intensifying efforts and focusing on achieving a green economy and intensifying actions in the future, Lekjaa recalled.
Minister of Agriculture Ahmed El Bouari also commended the new collaboration, stressing Rabat’s determination to strengthen cooperation with Germany in several sectors, including agriculture.

She said the signing of the new agreement reflects the exemplary cooperation between the two countries.
Nizar Baraka, Minister of Equipment and Water, noted the need to combat climate change, especially regarding water management, with a particular focus on desalination and water conservation.
Morocco is committed to developing the energies of the future, he said.
Robert Dolger, the Ambassador of Germany to Rabat, said the signing of the agreement symbolizes the “Strong cooperation” marked by mutual trust and collaboration on a common agenda to tackle major challenges.
He called for an immediate action in the face of climate change as the issue is a priority for the future.
Today, KfW also granted a €50 million loan to Morocco’s Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE).
The loan seeks to strengthen Morocco’s water supply infrastructure and support a climate resilient drinking water program to ensure water security in several regions.
