Rabat – The Korean Association of Travel Agents (KATA) is holding its annual congress in Marrakech from December 14 to 19. This marks the first time KATA has chosen Morocco as the destination for its major annual gathering.

According to a statement from the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT), the congress will bring together over 60 participants. These include KATA’s top management, executives from major Korean tour operators, key figures in South Korea’s tourism industry, as well as journalists.

The event will allow KATA members to discuss their latest sales reports and current trends in Korea’s tourism market. Participants will also address global tourism challenges and explore strategies to boost tourism between Morocco and Korea.

ONMT said this congress is part of its efforts to attract more Korean tourists to Morocco. In addition, the event aligns with ONMT’s “Marrakech Forever” strategy, which aims to promote Marrakech as a top travel destination. ONMT hopes to position Morocco as an attractive choice in the growing Korean tourism market.

Korean travelers have significant potential, added the statement. In 2023, Koreans spent over $32 billion on international travel, with more than 23 million outbound trips recorded. By hosting the KATA congress, Morocco aims to tap into this market and increase tourism from Korea.

This initiative is part of ONMT’s “Light in Action” campaign, which aims to make Morocco a leading global tourism destination.

The tourism office has launched this campaign in several countries, notably throughout Europe. The 2023-2026 action plan focuses on improving three key areas, including marketing, airline, digital, and distribution.

“The ONMT seeks to support the ministry’s strategy, which aims to attract 17.5 million visitors in three years and place Morocco among the top 10 tourist destinations in the world by 2026,” the office previously said.
