Rabat — The draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco takes place on January 27, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced.
CAF also revealed the tournament will run from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
Matches will be held across six venues, including Casablanca’s Mohammed V Complex and Rabat’s Moulay Abdellah Complex. Other host cities are Agadir, Marrakech, Fez, and Tangier.
A total of 24 teams have qualified for the competition with Morocco leading the charge.
The full line-up includes: Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Algeria, DR Congo, Senegal, Egypt, Angola, Equatorial Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, Uganda, South Africa, Tunisia, Nigeria, Mali, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Comoros, Sudan, Benin, Tanzania, Botswana, and Mozambique.
CAF officially awarded Morocco the hosting rights in September after a review of its world-class stadiums and infrastructure. Algeria and the joint Nigeria-Benin bids have all dropped out.
Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, called it a “historic moment.” He has credited King Mohammed VI’s focus on sports and commitment to improving football in Africa.
Morocco wants to organize the “best-ever AFCON,” Lekjaa said. The country boasts a rich footballing history with modern facilities and will leave nothing to chance.
The stage is set to welcome fans from across the world to celebrate African football.
