A potentially widespread bug has left millions of users around the world unable to send messages, reply to posts or scroll through their feeds on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook.
The outage, which affected these major social media platforms simultaneously, sent waves of frustration across the globe as people turned to alternative platforms to share their experiences.
“Don’t panic guys! WhatsApp is down worldwide. It’s not just you. Let’s take a deep breath and wait for it to come back,” one user wrote on X.
Many said WhatsApp was working through the desktop version.
Several reports wrote on the potential bug, saying the cause is still unclear at this time.
“It is unclear what is causing the problems at this time, but according to downdetector, which monitors problems with websites and apps, there have been over 10,000 reports over a short period regarding WhatsApp, indicating that the problem is widespread,” Ctech reported.
Beyond Whatsapp, users of Meta-owned applications including Facebook, Instagram, and Threads suffered the major outage as well.
