Rabat – Morocco has become the ideal holiday spot for Spanish families, according to a survey by travel platform Evaneos, beating Egypt, Costa Rica, and Thailand.
Morocco offers a mix of traditional and modern life just over a one-hour flight from Spain. Dimension Turistica, a Spanish magazine, calls it “the gateway to Africa.”
“On a few hours by plane, Morocco presents itself as a fantastic destination that’s easily accessible, thanks to its blend of ancient traditions and vibrant modernity,” the magazine explains.
Families are especially fond of the bustling streets of Marrakech. “From the markets and the delightful aromas that excite the senses to the breathtaking views of the Sahara Desert, Morocco offers countless opportunities for family exploration,” the magazine adds.
Many families book trips for over a week, especially during New Year celebrations. The magazine has listed top activities for families: “They can enjoy camel rides at sunset, discover the Atlas Mountains, and immerse themselves in the culture through Moroccan cooking,” it says.
Parents also love the local hospitality and friendliness towards tourists, which makes travel more enjoyable with children. “One of the aspects that particularly attracts parents is the warmth of the people,” Dimension Turistica notes.

In 2023, Morocco welcomed a record 2.8 million Spanish tourists by the end of November — nearly 40% more than the previous year. Nearly three out of every 10 tourists who visited Morocco last year were from Spain.
Meanwhile, Morocco recorded 15.9 million tourist arrivals by November 2024, according to the Ministry of Tourism. This represents a 20% increase from the same period in 2023, with 2.6 million more visitors. Visits by Moroccans living abroad also grew by 17%, adding 1.1 million tourists.
In November alone, 1.3 million people visited the country, a 31% increase from the same period last year.
Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor called the numbers a major step for Moroccan tourism. She said they reflect progress toward making Morocco among the top 15 global destinations.
Ammor took to Linkedin to say that her ministry “planned to hold off on sharing figures until the end of December,” but they “couldn’t help but announce this historic milestone with everyone.”
