Morocco continues to boost its security cooperation with international partners, particularly Spain and Germany.

Abdellatif Hammouchi, the General Directorate of the country’s National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST), held a working meeting today in Madrid with Director General of the Spanish Police, Francisco Pardo Piqueras, and President of the German Bundespolizei Dieter Romann.

The meeting comes amid maneuvers from countries and entities maneuvering against Morocco’s ever-growing relationship with its European partners, leading EU countries like Spain and Germany to continue showing their commitment to deepening cooperation with Rabat in strategic areas.

Hammouchi visited Spain at the request of the Spanish National Police Directorate General to participate in bilateral meetings.

The meetings sought to expand areas of security cooperation and boost the exchange of expertise.

During the meeting, Spain and Morocco discussed the level of partnership between the two countries in areas like counterterrorism, irregular migration, and drug trafficking among others.

A joint statement said the bilateral discussions between Spain and Morocco also reviewed the “current security challenges and threats” the two countries face and highlighted the effectiveness of their security partnership.

Spain and Morocco also seek to expand cooperation as the two countries will co-host the World Cup 2030 along with Portugal, with both determined to advance cooperation in technical assistance and police training.

The meeting focused on security cooperation, particularly those related to the 2030 FIFA World Cup that Morocco will host along with Spain and Portugal.

The three countries also focused on the significance of sharing experiences, and best practices to ensure the successful organization of international football tournaments, particularly the 2030 World Cup.

The statement further stressed that the meeting is to enable the police forces of the three countries to boost their joint efforts to ensure the security of citizens, discussing other matters of common interest to their respective countries.

The three countries also seek to enhance collaboration and cooperation in the fight against organized crime, human trafficking, terrorism, and other security challenges in Europe.

Morocco has been a key partner for its international partners, including Spain — providing important intelligence to save its European country from serious terrorism threats. Morocco also assisted countries that hosted prestigious events, including Qatar during the 2022 World Cup.
