Rabat – Morocco and Portugal signed an agreement today as part of their efforts to ensure the smooth organization of the 2030 World Cup, which the two countries are set to co-host alongside Spain.
Moroccan Minister of Justice Abdellatif Ouahbi and his Portuguese counterpart Rita Alarcao Judice signed a joint declaration of intent in Lisbon to strengthen cooperation in the field of justice.
The agreement aims to create the right conditions for the success of the sporting event by improving access to justice for all parties involved in the tournament and digitizing judicial procedures to speed up the resolution of issues.
The agreement also aims to train legal professionals in key areas such as cross-border dispute management, legal security, and the protection of rights.
The declaration also discusses the importance of closer coordination between Moroccan and Portuguese judicial systems. This includes developing alternative methods for resolving disputes and creating action plans to ensure effective legal and judicial collaboration related to competition.
During their meeting, the two ministers recalled the strong ties between Morocco and Portugal and affirmed the importance of creating modern and efficient justice systems. They also commended the bilateral agreements between the two countries, saying they reflect their shared commitment to collaboration in various areas.
In light of Spain’s involvement as a co-host of the 2030 World Cup, Ouahbi and Godinho discussed the possibility of enhancing trilateral cooperation. They suggested drafting future agreements to support joint coordination between the three countries.
The ministers noted that the commitments made in the declaration would remain in effect until the conclusion of the global event.
The three co-hosts have repeatedly expressed commitment to collaborate with one another in different areas to ensure the successful hosting of the World Cup, which will be the first to take place in two different continents.
Earlier this week, Minister Delegate for Budget Fouzi Lekjaa detailed Morocco’s preparations for the global event, including upgrading stadiums, airports, accommodation, and overall infrastructure.
