Morocco and Mauritania have finalized an agreement, seeking to boost the two countries’ partnership in the renewable energy sector.
Minister of Energy Leila Benali, signed the agreement on Thursday with her Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed Ould Khaled.
Ouled Khaled is on a working visit as part of the two countries’ determination to build bilateral ties and cooperation at all levels.
The visit mirrors King Mohammed VI and Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani’s directives.
The memorandum of understanding covers planned projects to boost clean energy projects, benefiting both countries. It also endorses the sharing of knowledge and best practices in network management and energy security.
The partnership between the two countries also aims to explore the establishment of an electrical interconnection project to stabilize networks and improve electricity supply.
Morocco and Mauritania frequently echo their determination to continue boosting bilateral ties and relations at all levels.
In December, the Mauritanian president reiterated his country’s decision during a visit to Morocco. The visit aimed at giving a new impetus to bilateral cooperation with the North African kingdom.
During the visit, Ghazouani met with the King, where the two leaders discussed different avenues to enhance their countries’ relationship and share expertise in all domains.
Meanwhile, Morocco’s southern neighbor has other development projects on the horizon.
Recently, Mauritanian media quoted well-informed sources, who claimed that UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will visit Mauritani. During the potential visit, the UAE President is set to announce new projects his country plans to implement with Mauritania. News outlet Anbaa Info said these projects will also benefit Morocco.
