Rabat — Morocco’s Tourism Office’s (ONMT) next goal is to turn Rabat into a “fully-fledged” tourist destination in line with the capital’s rich heritage and development potential.
ONMTs shared its ambition in a new press release, detailing its new project to promote the city’s potential.
On Monday, a meeting took place between local stakeholders, the Wali of the Rabat-Sale-Kenitra region, and officials from the Regional Tourism Council, among others to discuss the new project.
“Rabat, the City of Light… stands out for its historical legacy and cultural dynamism,” ONMT said in its campaign statement.
The tourism office also cited the importance of the city as it hosts renowned international brands and is rapidly expanding its hotel offerings.
As part of its strategy to capitalize on the city’s assets, ONMT is deploying a promotional strategy that aligns with the capital’s offering.
The strategy aims to boost the city’s tourism activity and make it an essential destination in Morocco, ONMT said, adding that its team is working on initiatives to elevate the city’s cultural and artistic events.
“This stop in Rabat marks a major step forward in ONMT’s regional tour, confirming the office’s commitment to aligning public and private energies to build strong regional tourism brands,” the office said.
According to Morocco’s Tourism Observatory, Rabat’s tourism sector has witnessed an increase in overnight stays.
The number of overnight stays in classified tourist accommodation establishments rose by 4% during the first 10 months in 2024.
By the end of October, Rabat recorded 731,566 overnight stays. It surpassed the 683,910 stays recorded during the same period in 2032.
Morocco ended 2024 on a good note as it celebrated over 17 million tourist arrivals. The number exceeds the target set for 2026.
