Rabat – Roche Morocco has announced the appointment of Doctor Anis El Mekkaoui as its new General Manager, succeeding Sanaa Sayagh who recently took on a leadership role with Roche in Indonesia.
With over two decades of experience in the pharmaceutical sector, El Mekkaoui has a strong background in commercial strategy, sales, marketing, and medical affairs, says the pharmaceutical company in a press release.
His career has taken him across different regions including North Africa, the Middle East, and Central and Eastern Europe. In addition to his medical training, he holds a Master’s degree in Biopharmaceutical Management from the École Supérieure de Commerce de Paris (ESCP).
El Mekkaoui has been with Roche Morocco for several years and he served in various positions, including as Director of Sales and Marketing and Director of Commercial Operations. During this time, he led initiatives to improve access to treatments and advance healthcare innovation in the country.
The company noted that El Mekkaoui is also the President of the Association Les Entreprises du Médicament au Maroc (LEMM), which promotes collaboration in Morocco’s pharmaceutical sector.
Roche officials expressed their confidence in El Mekkaoui’s appointment. Maturin Tchoumi, Head of Africa, Pharma at Roche, stated that El Mekkaoui’s experience and strategic vision would be valuable in driving Roche Morocco’s growth and strengthening its partnerships in the healthcare sector.

“He will play an active role in Roche Morocco’s growth, innovation, and the strengthening of partnerships to maximize our impact on healthcare,” Tchoumi said.
Meanwhile, Silvia Barceleiro, Cluster Head, Pharma International at Roche, noted El Mekkaoui’s understanding of Morocco’s healthcare system and his expertise in implementing innovative solutions. She said that his leadership would play a key role in addressing challenges and advancing sustainable healthcare in the country.
In a statement, El Mekkaoui said he was honored to lead Roche Morocco and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to expanding access to innovative therapies for patients in Morocco. He described the country as a central part of Roche’s strategy and expressed determination to strengthen its position in the biopharmaceutical sector.
Roche Morocco has been operating in the country for over 60 years. It focuses on areas such as oncology, hematology, neuroscience, hemophilia, and ophthalmology. The company says it is committed to working with local institutions, non-governmental organizations, and the government to develop sustainable healthcare solutions tailored to Morocco’s needs.
