Rabat – Ivorian Minister of Foreign Affairs Leon Kacou Adom has expressed great appreciation for the strategic partnership between Cote d’Ivoire and Morocco during a meeting with his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita in Laayoune.
In a joint statement issued after their meeting today, both ministers commended the strong friendship and solidarity between their countries. They noted that these ties are guided by King Mohammed VI and President Alassane Ouattara.
The foreign ministers praised the progress made under the two countries’ strategic partnership, which they said has been strengthened by multiple visits from King Mohammed VI to Abidjan and the launch of key projects in sectors such as infrastructure, fishing, housing, healthcare, agriculture, and human development.
In addition, Adom and Bourita highlighted the critical role of the private sectors in Morocco and Cote d’Ivoire in advancing bilateral relations. They called on businesses from both countries to encourage new investments and enhance economic cooperation. They also urged the activation of mechanisms under the Economic Boost Group (GIE) to revive this partnership.
The ministers further noted the importance of stronger cooperation between the ports of both countries, particularly the Tanger-Med port, the Autonomous Port of Abidjan, and the upcoming Dakhla-Atlantic Port.
With regard to regional and international matters, the ministers expressed their shared views on key issues and reaffirmed their commitment to work together to resolve conflicts in Africa. They also agreed to support each other’s bids in regional and international organizations.
The statement concluded with the two ministers acknowledging the active role of Moroccan and Ivorian citizens in strengthening the bond between their nations. They expressed satisfaction with the measures that have facilitated their stay and residence in both countries since diplomatic relations were established in 1962.
Cote d’Ivoire has repeatedly expressed its strong support for Morocco’s autonomy plan for Western Sahara. The fact that the bilateral meeting between the two ministers took place in Laayoune speaks volumes about Cote d’Ivoire’s commitment to Morocco’s position and the significance of their partnership.
