Rabat – Greek football club AEK Athens announced today that they have mutually agreed to terminate the contract of Moroccan international Nordin Amrabat, bringing an end to his successful three-and-a-half-year tenure with the club.
Amrabat, 37, joined AEK Athens in August 2021, and he quickly became a key player in the team’s success.
The club’s official statement highlighted his pivotal role in the 2022-2023 season, where he helped AEK Athens secure the Greek League and Cup double. Over the course of his time at the club, Amrabat made 113 official appearances and scored 22 goals.
In a message shared on Instagram, Amrabat reflected on his departure, saying: “Today is the end of an unforgettable chapter in my professional career, after three and a half years full of beautiful memories.”
AEK Athens, including the club’s president Marios Iliopoulos, expressed their gratitude to Amrabat for his valuable contributions during his time with the team. Iliopoulos personally thanked the player, stating: “We wish Nordin good health and all the best in the continuation of his career.”
Amrabat’s career has seen him play across several European leagues. He began in the Dutch league with Almere City, Venlo, and Eindhoven, later moving to Turkey to play for Kayserispor and Galatasaray. He also had stints in Spain with Malaga and Leganes, in England with Watford, and in Saudi Arabia with Al-Nassr.
Known for his resilience and leadership, Amrabat leaves behind a lasting legacy at AEK Athens. While his future in football remains uncertain, his impact on the club will not be forgotten.
