Al Jazeera had issued a condemnatory statement denouncing the decision made by the Palestinian Authority to freeze its work in the occupied West Bank.

In its statement today, the news network said that the decision is an “attempt to dissuade the channel from covering the rapidly escalating events taking place in the occupied territories.”

The Palestinian government issued its decision on Wednesday, suspending all operations of the channel in the occupied territories, including broadcasts and office activities.

A ministerial committee announced the news, saying it would halt Al Jazeera’s activities “until the network’s legal status is clarified.”

Palestinian authorities accused the network of airing content deemed to “incite violence, spread misleading reports, and attempt to interfere in Palestinian domestic affairs.”

Reports have suggested that the decision is a response to Al Jazeera’s coverage of recent clashes between Palestinian security forces and resistance groups in the Jenin refugee camp.

“This decision comes following the ongoing campaign of incitement and intimidation by parties associated with the Palestinian Authority against Al Jazeera’s journalists and correspondents,” Al Jazeera itself reported, lamenting that the drastic move prevents reporters from carrying out their duties to “hide the truth about the events in the occupied territories, especially what is happening in Jenin and its camps.”

Al Jazeera described the decision as shocking, especially as the IOF continue their genocidal war in Gaza targeting civilians and journalists alike.

“Al Jazeera stresses that this decision will not deter it from its commitment to continue its professional coverage of events and developments in the West Bank,” the network said.

Al Jazeera has been one of the primary sources for international readers seeking updates about the situation in Gaza amid the unfolding  genocide.

Since October 7, 2023, Al Jazeera has dedicated a whole section in its website to reports on the situation in Gaza and occupied Palestinian territories facing IOF’s atrocities targeting civilians across the region.
