President of the Port Authority of the Bay of Cadiz Teofila Martinez announced negotiations are ongoing negotiations to establish a new maritime route between Agadir and Cadiz, southwestern Spain.

Martinez made his remarks during an interview, announcing that ongoing discussions involve business people and political leaders from Morocco.

The negotiations seek to facilitate the movement of goods between both shores, he noted.

“This project could turn the Port of Cadiz into a strategic gateway to European markets for agri-food products from Agadir,” El Estrecho Digital quoted Martinez as saying.

The goal behind the project is to also boost a trade flow, boosting bilateral trade relations between the two countries as well as between the EU and the North African kingdom.

The Souss-Massa region will potentially attract more investors, especially after the announcement of a future Dakar-Agadir maritime route.

In December, Morocco and Atlas Marine officially signed a protocol for the creation of a new commercial maritime line connecting Agadir and Dakar.

The agreement aims to streamline goods transport and address logistical challenges between Morocco and West Africa.

The goal is to reduce transportation costs and improve the efficiency of goods and truck transport as well as contributing to boosting commercial exchanges and opening new investment opportunities between the two regions.

Morocco is already positioning itself as a gateway serving both Africa and the EU.

“The direct link between Agadir and Dakar will open new perspectives for importers and exporters and boost intra-African trade,” President of the Souss Massa Regional Council Karim Aschengly said in December last year.

Morocco aims to boost its ties with the African continent as well as other contents, including the EU.

Under this goal, Morocco launched the Atlantic initiative, seeking to provide countries in the Sahel with direct access to the Atlantic ocean.

For Morocco, the coast is a gateway to both Africa and the Americas.
