Rabat – The 49th Hassan II Golf Trophy and the 28th Princess Lalla Meryem Cup have both kicked off at the Royal Golf Club Dar Essalam in Rabat, bringing together some of the biggest names in golf.
This year’s Hassan II Trophy, a key event on the PGA European Golf Tour, sees 66 top players from 12 countries, including 11 major championship winners.
Among them are four members of the World Golf Hall of Fame; Colin Montgomorie, José Maria Olazabal, Retief Goosen, and Ernie Els.
The tournament also features last year’s winners; Canadian Stephen Ames, and Argentinian Ricardo Gonzalez, who will defend their titles.
Meanwhile, the Princess Lalla Meryem Cup, a major event for Women’s golf, has drawn 108 players from across Europe. Swiss golfer Chiara Tamburlini, the 2024 European Women’s League Merit Award winner, is the one to watch.
Yet, all eyes are on Morocco’s Ines Laklalech. She finished seventh last year and aims even higher this time. She’s joined by her fellow Maha El Haddawi, Lina Belmaati, Malak Bourida, and the 15-year-old Sofia Sakli, who made history qualifying twice for this event.

The women’s competition also features top players like Thailand’s Trichat Chinglap, the Czech Republic’s Clara Davidson-Spilkova, and the UK’s Bronte Law, winner of last year’s title.
Young golfers are also getting their moment. The Hassan II Cup for children gives kids a chance to rub shoulders with the pros on the greens.
Morocco is the only country hosting both men’s and women’s PGA European Golf League events at the same time, showing the country’s full capability as a formidable host for global golf tournaments.
The action runs until Saturday, when the winners will be crowned.
