Rabat – Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch hosted in Rabat today Gérard Larcher, President of the French Senate.

Larcher’s visit reflects the deepening ties between Morocco and France, following President Emmanuel Macron’s state visit to the North African country in October 2024.

This visit also echoes France’s Minister of Culture Rachida Dati’s latest trip to Morocco, with both playing a key role in reinforcing the two countries’ rapidly evolving diplomatic relations.

Mustapha Baitas, Morocco’s Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament, attended the meeting, which touched on France’s support for Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara.

The statement issued after the talks recalled Macron’s visit as a turning point that reinforced bilateral cooperation under what both countries now consider an “exceptional partnership.”

Akhannouch spoke of the renewed momentum in relations, crediting the leadership of King Mohammed VI and President Macron for fostering stronger collaboration across multiple sectors.

He reaffirmed Morocco’s determination to work closely with France at bilateral, regional, and international levels.

Larcher’s visit aims to boost ties between legislative institutions in both countries.

Meanwhile, the French Senate’s president renewed his country’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity over its southern provinces.

In his discussions this morning with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita, Larcher stressed that the objective of his visit is to open a “new parliamentary chapter” in the ever-evolving ties between Paris and Rabat.

His itinerary includes a trip to Laayoune, where he will see firsthand the development projects underway in Morocco’s southern provinces.
