Rabat – Morocco’s national football team will take on Niger and Tanzania as part of the African qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) announced on Thursday that the games are scheduled to take place on March 21 and 25, respectively. Both matches are set to kick off at 9:30 p.m., according to the FRMF statement.

These fixtures correspond to the 5th and 6th matchdays of Group E in the World Cup qualifiers. Morocco currently leads the group with nine points after securing three consecutive victories.

Niger and Tanzania trail with six points each, followed by Zambia with three points, while the Republic of Congo sits at the bottom with zero points after Eritrea withdrew from the competition.

Morocco has previously played several key matches at the Honneur Stadium in Oujda, including qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The upcoming games will be crucial for the Atlas Lions as they aim to strengthen their position at the top of the group and secure their place in the 2026 World Cup.

The next edition of the World Cup will feature 48 teams, expanded from the usual 32, and will be hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

The teams competing in the qualifiers are divided into nine groups, with the winners of each group securing automatic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The four best runners-up from the groups will compete in a CAF (African Football Confederation) play-off tournament. The winner of this tournament will advance to a final FIFA play-off, where they will join five other teams. The top two teams from this play-off will qualify for the World Cup.
